Dried paint

Reply from spresser, 17.06.2008, 06:31:

Hi gunslinger.

Ive done this a few times myself, I suppose it comes down to a few things, which type of paints you use and whether your jars are glass or plastic.
I use AAT paints and glass bottles, so leaving the lids off of the pots for a day or two gets them to a nice solidity so that i can stick a screwdriver in there and pull the dried up paint out in one go. Simply peels off of the sides of the jar.

if they are glass, you could also try paintstipper or something like that to clear them out?

If they're plastic, Ive never tried it but you could try it anyway. you might try freezing them, and then once frozen, take them out and put them into a tub of boiling water, the expanding and contracting of the plastic will make the paint crack and give you a little room to move.

just rambling but you never know it may spin the cogs a bit and you may think of something else.

Good luck!

cheers

any tips on using color?

Reply from Kat B., 20.03.2008, 10:56:

Are you using only one airbrush? If so, then that's your problem. We can run 25 colors and have 8-12 guns in each set-up, depending on the event. If you want to do occasional events and not invest in a lot of money, then shimmer tats are your best option. If you want to do private events on a regular basis, then you'll need to invest in more equipment.

hi from a new member, AAT

Reply from Kat B., 20.03.2008, 10:52:

FYI - AAT will not sell to anyone in the USA, unless their a contracted client.
Airbrush Bodyart, Trendy Tribals, OCC are all suppliers of airbrush tattoo ink and ship promptly.

Black-only or Color? Difference in business?

Reply from Kat B., 20.03.2008, 10:44:

It depends on where you want to take it and how far you're willing to go. If you only want to do this during summer months, then black and shimmer powders is perfect.

If you want to do private events and gigs year long, you need color. I run a full time operation with 3 complete set-ups, 12 guns each, 25 colors & 300+ stencils for each set-up. It's taken years to get here, but I do 5-6 private events a month and have staff trained to spray in my style.
I also have a webpage, run ads in a party magazine and do expos and festivals in my area to get the word out. Great money, but it IS a full time job.

Black-only or Color? Difference in business?

Reply from spresser, 18.11.2007, 06:24:

Black will most definately be the larger percentage of tattoos that you do.

What has worked for me in the past is to offer mainly black tattoos, but then also add a little shimmer colour in there for the little girls. They are the ones that seem to want the more colourful ones. Shimmer is so very easy to apply that it will really only take you an extra 10 seconds to apply over an already done black tattoo.

Over the years this is what I have done and it has paid off for me. Why spend the extra 10 mins on a full colour tattoo, when you can have x3 black ones done in the same amount of time?

I guess it all comes down to your personal preference. Sometimes its nice to add a bit of colour, but after all, we are here to make a living no?

Hope this helps.

cheers

Black-only or Color? Difference in business?

Post by Hurricane, 13.11.2007, 06:44:

I am thinking about a very light dip into airbrush tattooing.

In order to cut down on costs, time and training, I am thinking about going all black-only.

Does anyone have any idea how much difference in business this would make?

This question is for people who do both black-only and color versions of all there tats, what percebtage want color and what percentage want black-only?

Thanks.
